Bastille Day Festivities in the Garden and Around Town

Posted by on Jul 16, 2016 in | 0 comments

Frenchtown kicks off its Bastille Day Fete with a fashion show at high noon! The Frenchtown Couture will showcase fashions from local boutiques, shops and designers. Seth Andrew & Doug Miller Jazz Duo will accompany the fashion show and play throughout the early afternoon. The swinging sounds of Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra will be heard along Bridge Street from 2pm to 5pm. This year’s fete is full of fun for the entire family! Get your face painted, go on a scavenger hunt, enjoy a puppet show at the Book Garden and take home a balloon creature or two! Bastille Day certainly wouldn’t be the same without the Stilt Walker and Mime entertaining visitors as they stroll through town listening live music. We will have a special guest appearance by children’s musician and author, Lolly Hopwood! Time to be finalized soon. Shops and galleries throughout Frenchtown will have special sales, activities, food, raffles and much more. Madame DeFarge will be knitting away at The Spinnery and you might even run into Marie Antoinette at the Pirate Cupcake Truck. The Book Garden will once again welcome the River Union Stage Puppet Show to the backyard for two afternoon shows – times to be announced that day. Plus, we’ll have some in-store specials and a raffle! Learn more about Frenchtown’s rich history during one of Rick Epstein’s walking tours – he’ll be setting off on three tours during the festivities. They will be setting off from The Book Garden at 1pm, 2:30pm and 4pm! After walking through Frenchtown’s history, visitors are invited to end the day with a journey to Gertrude Stein’s famed Left Bank salon with Raconteur Radio who will be performing at 6pm at the new ArtYard space (formerly Two Buttons) next to the Lovin Oven. This theatrical experience will immerse visitors into an evening with Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Isadora Duncan, Henri Matisse, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Salvador Dali, Alice B. Toklas, and, of course, the Mother of Modernism herself! Visit us on Facebook or www.frenchtownnj.org for updates and join us on Saturday, July 16TH from noon until night for the 18th annual Bastille Day Fete....

Frenchtown Celebration

Posted by on Jun 17, 2016 in | 0 comments

The second annual Frenchtown Celebration will highlight this community’s unique history and showcase the “My Most Favorite Historic Place in Frenchtown” essays written by Fourth Graders of Frenchtown Elementary School. Several students are going to read their essays aloud! This year we welcome journalist and local Frenchtown historian and walking tour guide, Rick Epstein, to share some of his favorite Frenchtown facts (and fiction)! Refreshements will be served – this year’s cake is certain to surprise once...
